Pasar Senggol Gianyar, Bali’s most colorful traditional night market

When we go to the North East of Denpasar, the capital of Bali, takes about half hour we will arrive at the beautiful small town called Gianyar. If we see the huge white Garuda Wisnu Kencana Statue, that means we are entering Gianyar Town, capital of Gianyar regency

Gianyar is one of nine regencies among Bali province, well known as the home town of artist because in this regency has born some world class artist such us Gusti  Nyoman Lempad master of painting, Made Jimat master of traditional dance, Nyoman Winten master of sculptures and many more

In Yogyakarta, the most popular place is Jalan Malioboro, but in Gianyar, the place that has been well known as the land mark of Gianyar is Pasar Senggol, Traditional Night Market. It’s open daily from four in the afternoon till eleven in the evening. At Pasar Senggol Gianyar we will find huge varieties of Bali’s traditional food, such us Babi Guling  or suckling pig,the best Babi guling on the island. Betutu, roasted chicken or duck, Jukut Ares, vegetables made from the banana trees, sromotan, mix vegetables with spicy sous and also many kind of Balinese cakes like kelepon, laklak, lukis and bulung

But, At Pasar Senggol Gianyar we will also find some clothes and other things for house holding like frying pan, rice basket and even DVDs. Some times at DVD shop we can enjoy some Balinese song or even Julio Eglesias, just ask them they will very happy to play it for us. This complex located at the southern side of the market and at the northern side is special for food only.

We can take a walk or even try some food that we like, and enjoy the atmosphere of Balinese life. see how they making the food, how they eat, how they sell something and how they bargain the price.
